Club Management

The High Land Beekeeping Club (HLBKC) is a 501(c)3) non-profit organization, run entirely by volunteers.

The HLBKC strives to preserve and protect honeybees (Apis mellifera), to educate and train new beekeepers, and share information, skills, knowledge, best practices, and technology.

Additionally, HLBKC provides a forum where beekeepers can exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences with one another. All dues-paying members of the HLBKC are members of the Colorado State Beekeeping Association, the oldest and most recognized beekeeping organization in Colorado.

We encourage our members to take advantage of the excellent educational opportunities that the CSBA offers.

Below you’ll find information about our mission, board responsibilities and bylaws.

Mission

The objective of the HLBKC is to promote education and public awareness of bees, of beekeeping and of the benefits of bees to the U.S. economy. The HLBKC strives to preserve and protect honeybees (Apis mellifera), to educate and train new beekeepers, share information, skills, knowledge, best practices, and technology in the craft.

We created these guides in order to provide a comprehensive overview of the roles and responsibilities of the club’s leadership team. Each officer plays a vital part in fostering the growth and success of our community, ensuring that we continue to promote responsible beekeeping and support our members in their endeavors.

The Officer Guide includes detailed descriptions of the following roles:

  • President: The leader and representative of the club, overseeing all activities and ensuring alignment with our mission.
  • Vice President: The primary support to the President, responsible for planning meetings, booking speakers, and managing the club calendar.
  • Secretary: The record-keeper, responsible for documenting meetings, managing motions and votes, and maintaining club records.
  • Treasurer: The financial steward, managing budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
  • Past President: An advisor and mentor to current officers, providing continuity and historical knowledge.
  • Swarm Manager: The coordinator of swarm and structural removal calls, ensuring efficient responses and collaboration with the Colorado State Beekeeping Association (CSBA).
